Curve Finance Datasets have Arrived to Dungeons & Data

Can you scale the curve? As part of Covalent's Dungeons & Data competition, we are excited to release to our community a comprehensive set of rich historical and granular CSV files for analysis. Dungeons & Data participants will have the opportunity to analyze, transform and visualize this dataset for prizes. The competition has various challenge levels, as they require different amounts of effort and expertise with data transformation and visualization. So depending on your available time and experience with data science, choose something fitting, start your data journey and most importantly, have fun!

There are many competitions available as part of Dungeons & Data – the data science portion is known as Data Barbarians.

About the data set

Credits: Shout out to Ben Simon from Mechanism Capital and the Curve finance team for inspiring many of these datasets.

The data set is delivered as historical, granular CSV files for the 2 Curve pools:

  • Pool3 (DAI/USDC/USDT) - 0xbebc44782c7db0a1a60cb6fe97d0b483032ff1c7

  • Token ID 0: DAI

  • Token ID 1: USDC

  • Token ID 2: USDT

  • YPool (DAI/USDC/USDT/TUSD) - 0x45f783cce6b7ff23b2ab2d70e416cdb7d6055f51

  • Token ID 0: DAI

  • Token ID 1: USDC

  • Token ID 2: USDT

  • Token ID 4: TUSDC

There's one zip file with two files and the following contents. All data is snapshotted as of block 11,260,000 and only contains trade data for the above two pools.

Challenge levels

Ordinary: A relatively straightforward challenge that requires basic data transformation skills. Good to try your hand out at Dungeons and Data challenges with relatively small time investment.

Formidable: A harder challenge that provides more depth than Ordinary challenges, but doesn’t require significant data science skills or rigorous research.

Heroic: The challenges of this level require a careful approach coupled with previous experience in working with the data. Successfully completing a Heroic challenge shows that you are able to produce quality blockchain data research.

Godlike: Godlike challenges require a strong affinity to data science and blockchain, as the datasets of Godlike quality are extensive and require a careful approach and deep research.

Transcendent: Challenges of this level require a significant time investment, expertise in data science and a strong passion for digging into blockchain data. Data barbarians that complete Transcendent challenges will prove that they are able to produce research of the highest quality on the most granular datasets in crypto space!

Curve Dataset Challenges

In Dungeons & Data there are three types of tasks:

  1. Data visualization
  2. Data science
  3. Case studies.

The challenges require different skill sets and approaches. Data visualization tasks are mostly about presenting the data in a pretty and informative way, whereas Data science tasks require data transformation skills. Case studies require a wide array of data skills and an understanding of blockchain technology. Therefore Case studies challenges are in general more difficult, but also provide a chance for the best data analysts in the space to prove themselves.

📊 Data Visualization

1. Curve - Total Volume Traded

Challenge level: Ordinary

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Ben Simon. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Curve transactions.

About your task: For this challenge, you have to create a visualization of total volume traded on one of the Curve decentralized exchanges. All data is provided in the attached CSV file, so you have to find a way to present this information in an intuitive way. You can use any software you want to visualize the data. Think of your target audience as people interested in blockchain data and looking to get more statistics on Curve usage.

About your final submission: Ideally, your final submission will be an infographic that incorporates all useful information regarding the total volume traded on Curve. You are not limited in the exact way to present the data, but ideally, the visualization should fit a single page/image.

🔬 Data Science

2. Curve - Calculate slippage rates

Challenge level: Heroic

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Blockchain Data API. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Curve transactions.

About your task: For this challenge, you have to report on the slippage of various trade sizes. Group trades into sizes of 1-50, 50-500, 500-5000, 5000-50,000 and above 50,000 and for each group, calculate slippages.

About your final submission: Your final submission should be a short 1-2 page report (preferably with informative graphics) regarding the slippage of various trade sizes. There are no strict limitations regarding the structure or the contents of the report. Interesting or intriguing findings following your findings of the slippages are a big plus.

3. Curve - Are gauge rewards outpacing volume or liquidity for each pool?

Challenge level: Godlike

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Blockchain Data API. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Curve transactions.

About this task: For this challenge, you have to calculate whether the Curve rewards as determined by the gauges are consistent with the amount of liquidity. Calculate this weekly over the last 4 or 5 weeks for a historical analysis.

About your final submission: Your final submission should be a short report (preferably with informative graphics) regarding the gauge rewards versus liquidity/volume of a pool. There are no strict limitations regarding the structure or the contents of the report, but ideally we would like to see the data regarding the rewards and careful analysis of the data. Generalizing the findings and providing recommendations is a plus, but not a pre.
