🦄 Uniswap Datasets have Arrived to Dungeons & Data

Can you tame the unicorn? As part of Covalent's Dungeons & Data competition, we are excited to release to our community a comprehensive set of rich historical and granular CSV files for analysis. Dungeons & Data participants will have the opportunity to analyze, transform and visualize this dataset for prizes. The competition has various challenge levels, as they require different amounts of effort and expertise with data transformation and visualization. So depending on your available time and experience with data science, choose something fitting, start your data journey and most importantly, have fun!

There are many competitions available as part of Dungeons & Data – the data science portion is known as Data Barbarians.

About the data set

Credits: Shout out to the Uniswap team, specifically Matteo Leibowitz for inspiring many of these datasets.

The data set is delivered as historical, granular CSV files for the top 5 Uniswap pools:

  • WBTC - ETH pool (0xbb2b8038a1640196fbe3e38816f3e67cba72d940)
  • USDC - ETH pool (0xb4e16d0168e52d35cacd2c6185b44281ec28c9dc)
  • ETH - USDT pool (0x0d4a11d5eeaac28ec3f61d100daf4d40471f1852)
  • DAI - ETH pool (0xa478c2975ab1ea89e8196811f51a7b7ade33eb11)
  • UNI - ETH pool (0xd3d2e2692501a5c9ca623199d38826e513033a17)

There are three zip files with the following contents. All data is snapshotted as of block 11,100,000 and only contains data for the above 5 pools.

1. Uniswap liquidity actions – Every single Burn and Mint action performed by a liquidity provider (144K rows)

2. Uniswap trades – Every single Swap action performed by a trader (1.96 million rows)

3. Uniswap Pool token holders – Every single LP and their share of the liquidity pools for the above 5 pools as of block 11,100,000.

Challenge levels

Ordinary: A relatively straightforward challenge that requires basic data transformation skills. Good to try your hand out at Dungeons and Data challenges with relatively small time investment.

Formidable: A harder challenge that provides more depth than Ordinary challenges, but doesn’t require significant data science skills or rigorous research.

Heroic: The challenges of this level require a careful approach coupled with previous experience in working with the data. Successfully completing a Heroic challenge shows that you are able to produce quality blockchain data research.

Godlike: Godlike challenges require a strong affinity to data science and blockchain, as the datasets of Godlike quality are extensive and require a careful approach and deep research.

Transcendent: Challenges of this level require a significant time investment, expertise in data science and a strong passion for digging into blockchain data. Data barbarians that complete Transcendent challenges will prove that they are able to produce research of the highest quality on the most granular datasets in crypto space!

Uniswap Dataset Challenges

In Dungeons & Data there are three types of tasks:

  1. Data visualization
  2. Data science
  3. Case studies.

The challenges require different skill sets and approaches. Data visualization tasks are mostly about presenting the data in a pretty and informative way, whereas Data science tasks require data transformation skills. Case studies require a wide array of data skills and an understanding of blockchain technology. Therefore Case studies challenges are in general more difficult, but also provide a chance for the best data analysts in the space to prove themselves.

📊 Data Visualization

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Blockchain Data API. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Uniswap transactions, liquidity and liquidity providers, prices and a lot more!

About your task: For this challenge, you have to report on the median LP liquidity provided. In the dataset, you can find information about different liquidity pools on Uniswap. You have to calculate the median LP liquidity that is provided and generalize your findings.

About your final submission: Your final submission should be a short 1-2 page report (preferably with informative graphics) regarding the median LP liquidity provided. There are no strict limitations regarding the structure or the contents of the report. Interesting or intriguing findings following your findings of the median liquidity are a big plus.

6. Uniswap - Calculate Impermanent Loss

Challenge level: Godlike

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Blockchain Data API. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Uniswap transactions, liquidity and liquidity providers, prices and a lot more!

About this task: For this challenge, you have to calculate the impermanent loss over time per pool. In the dataset, you can find information about different liquidity pools on Uniswap. You have to calculate the impermanent loss (read about impermanent loss here) per pool and then compare the data across pools, provide descriptive statistics and analyze the findings.

About your final submission: Your final submission should be a short report (preferably with informative graphics) regarding the impermanent loss in Uniswap pools. There are no strict limitations regarding the structure or the contents of the report, but ideally we would like to see the data regarding the impermanent loss and careful analysis of the data. Generalizing the findings and providing recommendations is a plus, but not a pre.

There are no strict limitations regarding the structure or the contents of the report, but ideally we would like to see an investigative report on what causes a high (or low!) whale concentration in a pool has. Generalizing the findings and providing recommendations is a plus, but not a pre.

🔍 Case Studies

8. Uniswap - Wash Trading Activity

Challenge level: Heroic

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Blockchain Data API. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Uniswap transactions, liquidity and liquidity providers, prices and a lot more!

About this task: or this challenge, you have to create a case study regarding the wash trading activity on Uniswap. You can approach this case study purely from the quantitative perspective, showing how much wash trading activity is happening on Uniswap and the trends. Alternatively, you can make a case study investigating how much UNI holders profit from the wash trading activity and what implications does that have. Or you can choose any sub-topic related to wash trading to your liking!

About your final submission: We would like to see a 4-5 page case study (quality over quantity though, if you do a comprehensive case study that fits in 2 pages of text, it would be a huge plus) on the topic of wash trading on Uniswap and its implications. Graphs, charts and tables supporting the findings are required for a great case study. Potential readers (general crypto audience interested in data) should be able to understand from your case study what is wash trading, how it is present on Uniswap and what are the implications of it.

9. Uniswap - Token Mint/Burn

Challenge level: Transcendent

About the dataset: This dataset is available through Covalent’s leading Blockchain Data API. It contains different statistics and numbers regarding Uniswap transactions, liquidity and liquidity providers, prices and a lot more!

About this task: For this challenge, you have to create a case study on minting/burning tokens using the Uniswap dataset. You can investigate sub-topics such as Burn and Mint Equilibrium, the mint-to-burn ratio for liquidity providers across different liquidity ranges (i.e. $0 - 1000$, $1000 - $5000, etc), burn vs. market volatility correlation, and anything else you find important. In the end, your case study should provide valuable insights derived from the Uniswap dataset regarding the minting/burning mechanism and how it influences Uniswap contracts.

About your final submission: We would like to see a 4-5 page case study (quality over quantity though, if you do a comprehensive case study that fits in 2 pages of text, it would be a huge plus) on the topic of token minting/burning and its implications. Graphs, charts and tables supporting the findings are required for a great case study. Potential readers (general crypto audience interested in data) should be able to understand from your case study why do minting/burning economics matter, the correlation between burning and volatility, how token burn influences liquidity provision. You don’t have to cover all of the sub-topics, but you have to clearly explain your findings for the ones you choose.
